The art: Dorothea Lange, Shoofly, North Carolina, 1939. No American artist has ever been more interested in the plight of farmworkers than Dorothea Lange. Linda Gordon’s biography of the artist is an absolute must-read.
The news: “After Long Fight, Farmworkers in Florida Earn an Increase of Pay,” by Kristofer Rios in the New York Times. The farm works will earn an extra penny per pound of fruit they harvest.
